Yellowstone National park is one of the most beautiful parks and a must visit destination spots. You would not go wrong for sure. It is a huge wilderness area spans over 3500 sq-mile and sits stop a volcanic hot spot. It spans across 3 states - Montana, Idaho but mostly in Wyoming. It features a range of landscape from canyons, rivers, forests, hot springs, geysers and is also home to a wide variety of species like bears, antelopes, bison, elk and wolves. So be sure to pack your binoculars as you are sure to spot a few if not many. There aren't many big airports close to the park, but if you are willing to pay the extra buck you can opt to fly into one of the local ones. But we flew into Salt Lake City and drove from there. The park has 3 entrances - North, West and South (through Grand Teton), and is very huge so plan such that you enter through one and exit through the other to minimize the driving. This trip was very special to us as I was taking my graduation walk for my Masters degree. Two years of being a student, mom with a full time job finally paid off and now its the end of my student journey.  Thanks to my family for all the support, especially my encouraging husband and understanding son for helping me complete this journey. We thought we will see the local attractions during this trip. The nearest airports to Penn State was a minimum 7 hours drive and we chose to fly into the Baltimore Airport. We visited during the month of May. Day 1: Baltimore - Gettysburg - Harrisburg Our flight landed in the morning in the Baltimore airport, and after renting a car, we started driving to Gettysburg - 1 hour 30 mins. This town has an historical importance as its known for the Gettysburg National Battlefield, which is now knows as the Gettysburg National Military Park. Palm Springs is a beautiful getaway destination just 2 hours from San Diego. So we usually end up going here during the winter when we do not have any other trips planned. It is a great place to unwind and relax. There are many resorts, so getting accommodation should not be an issue! We have gone to Palm Springs many times, I have just combined all the things in a single trip plan for ease of planning. As mentioned there are many resorts to choose from, and most of them add a resort fee as well. We stayed in the Palm Desert Marriott Villas (no resort fee). This is place is very family friendly and had a lot of resort activities for kids. The JW Marriott is next to this place, so the guests of the Villas are allowed to use the facilities of JW Marriott as well. The Villas had a huge heated pool (no slides though),  Recreation center for the kids with lots of games, bike rentals. They offer a free shuttle to the JW Marriott (which is also a quick drive), and we enjoyed the Min...

We were planning a trip to the capitol for a long time and finally executed the plan. We traveled for 5 days and 4 nights with our 6 year old son and parents. Many people would say 5 days in the capitol city is too long, but we felt it was short and given couple of more days we would have surely filled it up as well :) Also people usually combine New York, Niagara and Washington DC trips if travelling from west coast. I would highly discourage that unless you dedicate a weeks time for each place. We visited all the 3 places separately and it was totally worth it. If you have the luxury of taking a vacation for minimum 2 weeks than combining all the spots make sense. Please do not try to squeeze all these beautiful places in less than 2 weeks. Then you would have not enjoyed the beauty of each place. Day 1: We took a red eye flight from San Diego and reached the Baltimore Airport by 5 am.
